Packing your Laptop off for Repair!

Selecting the right box

If you choose to use your own packaging instead of our specialist laptop repairer crates then please make sure that you choose a box that will get your laptop to us safely. A few recommendations from our laptop repairers are:

  • Always use a corrugated cardboard box
  • Make sure that the box is at least two inches (2") bigger on all four sides of the notebook (two inches is approximately the width of three fingers)
  • Make sure that the box is at least six inches (6") taller than the height of the notebook
    Please note that although the manufacturer's packaging material may be the best box to use, we are unable to return that box to you when your notebook is returned. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Selecting the right packaging material

When selecting the packing material, please remember that the better material you use the more likely that your notebook with be delivered to our specialist laptop repairers safely. A few recommendations when selecting the right packaging material has been put forward by our laptop repairers:

  • Never use newspaper as packaging material
  • Whenever possible, wrap your notebook in at least three inches (3") of thick bubble wrap
  • If bubble wrap is not available, use packaging peanuts
  • Make sure that any accessories are also properly packaged to avoid contact with your notebook

Packing Steps

  • 1. Place the laptop in a plastic bag
  • 2. Place a layer of at least three inches (3") of packaging peanuts on the bottom of the box
  • 3. Place the laptop on top of the packing peanuts, centered in the box
  • 4. Place another three inches (3") of packaging peanuts on top of the notebook, keeping the notebook "suspended" in the middle of the box

What to send with your notebook

Please remember that the goal of our laptop repairers is to get your laptop back to you as quickly as possible. With that in mind, here are a few recommendations on what to send with your notebook to avoid processing delays:

  • Always include your battery and adapter
  • If available, be sure to include your restore software CD [this is a CD that came with your notebook and will have the notebook Manufacturer's name (Sony, Toshiba, etc.) on the label.
  • Include extra items only if they are related to your notebook's symptoms

Shipping Tips

  • Write your Repair Order number on the outside of the box
  • Select a carrier that provides package tracking and insurance
  • Insure your notebook for its full value
